Mother of the Nation

by Gail Louw

There is a great deal of controversy about Winnie Mandela. She was called both Mother of the Nation and Mugger of the Nation. Although her early life reflected enormous bravery, she was seriously brutalised by the appalling treatment she received by the SA government.

“When someone is subjected to the kind of consistent persecution and harassment she suffered from the apartheid system, something is bound to snap. We understand that and will always be there for her.”
