The Ballad of John Wilkes Booth is set in the late 1800s.
John Wilkes Booth was the youngest of 3 brothers: the most famous classical theatre actors in the whole of the USA. He became even more famous/infamous after he shot President Abraham Lincoln in the Ford Theatre, Washington.
We are guided through the story by Madagascar Joe: a slave of the Booth family.
There is some racist language in both the 1800s and the 1960s settings.
