The story of an ageing French car, the legendary Citroen DS 19, La Déesse, which falls in love with a young Englishman. When Peter buys the car from Gordon, it’s pretty much a decaying wreck parked up in a suburban street. Peter spends all his spare time repairing and refurbishing the car, much to his live-in girlfriend’s chagrin. However, when Peter, out driving, sees and falls in love with Chrissy, a bicycle-riding environmentalist, the car is more than a little upset.
This play was first read at AWL in November 2004. It was included in the Write for Radio showcase in 2006. The subsequent CD recording was adorned with the sounds of a vintage Citroen DS 19.
