1926 - 2024 R.I.P.
Denys Graham died on 24th October 2024 - peacefully at home aged 98.
Before entering RADA, Denys became a skilled pianist and, as a mark of his versatility, gained an MA in Chemistry and Mathematics at New College, Oxford.
Although of slight build he was often cast as a fighting soldier, as he was in Zulu and The Dam Busters.
His extensive theatre credits include two years with Sir John Gielgud’s Company at the Phoenix Theatre followed by a season at Stratford-upon-Avon. He played in the original production of Under Milk Wood at the then New Theatre. As his reputation as an excellent character actor grew, he used his talent to raise funds for charities.
Denys has made an extraordinary contribution to the history of drama in Britainn and especially to his home country of Wales. His demise has been an enormous loss to AWL. His mastery in acting was in his timing, which never failed. For any observing actor, watching Denys was always like watching a Master Class. In old age his fingers lost their dexterity, which denied him the pleasure of playing his piano as he had always done since a child. At AWL we will miss him sorely.
